I think the google search box on your site is distracting from the message you are trying to deliver.

People want a story… give them one
Make your site a free report / story to help people… speak to them and guide them… explain why they should take the steps you recommend and how it will help them.

Also… try embeding your adsesne in the text so it looks like part of the site.
this could be a good market for adsense money.

you have a decent start here. good niche.
Focus on helping people… think of what they want.
do they want to find cheap gas in thier area?
Do they want to find out how to better thier gas mileage?
Speak thier language and give them some more content.
also never put the http://www.com domain name in your affiliate links… that could cost you some commissions

I am using homestead for my site because I was having so much trouble with Nvu (I wasted two solid weeks on it and I finally bit the bullet and went to an editor I am familiar with). I guess that makes me a wimp, but the point is I gotta get my site out there and that was the best way to do it. So I worked day and night putting the site together (for the 50th time because of Nvu) and I raced to beat the deadline to get my site critiqued and listed on your blog… Except I thought the deadline was today, but now I see it was Friday. Oh well…
Another problem I had was that I have a great domain based on targeted keyword research and everything I learned in Simple Sites and I registered it at 1 & 1 hosting (along with the developer’s package that I planned on using) — but now that I have gone to homestead, I can’t transfer my domain for 60 days, which will be Christmas!!!! My site was optimized for the targeted domain/keyword technique, but today when I found I can’t transfer it, I changed a few things to (barely) optimize it for another 2nd choice domain (based on the targeted keyword technique)BUT I didn’t register it yet because I thought I should get your advice first — should I go ahead and get the 2nd choice and see what happens until I can transfer and revamp for my 1st choice or — what are my other options?
You’re a great teacher and I would love your critique. After I visited other sites listed on this blog, I got bold and went all out… You may remember me from the letter I wrote you several days ago crying about all the problems I’ve had… Well, I’m gonna make this course work one way or another so if you have a few minutes, I’d love to hear from you.

Hey Marcus, I got a really simple site together, but Im having a hard time getting google adwords to do anything for me. I have got a decent budget dialed in there and have gone thru the motions but I havent gotten one click. Its kinda stiffling my efforts. I dont see my ad on any keyword searches. Of course google answers my email with an automated response. Not very helpful. so where should I go from here? this is my site. its not much.

ok, here goes. Its my first posting and my first ever site.
Just started reading the materials and was just itching to get something together.
I’m working on a real, real low budget and figured I’d keep things simple like.

I figure I’m way late for the contest, but wouldn’t mind getting feedback nonetheless.
Already got a few hits on the site, which I tell you, is a real thrill. Especially when the visits come straight from Yahoo. The thought that someone clicked on my ad with all those other countless links on the page is just the ticket for a late-night ego boost.
One sobering lesson I learned was that after putting together my list of nickel phrases from looking at Adwords, I switched over to Yahoo to get the bonus for first time signing up with the Ad campaigns. All my phrases ended up being a bit more to run than I had thought. Fortunately for me, I dodged a bullet and had the daily budget option on (more because I wasn’t familiar enough to recognize that setting), or else I would have blown out my cash on a few expensive clicks *Phew!*
I’m catching on though, and I got a few ideas on what to do there now.
So let me know what you think. Is the site too simple for even Simple Sites?

On another note the Simple Sites, Big Profits is one of the, if THE BEST programs out there in cyber space that you could ever fine. Marcus has hit it out of the park with this one.
